Goldfinch Feeding on Seeds

The Goldfinch (Carduelis carduelis) is common in all kinds of open country with scattered trees and bushes in parks and gardens. This Goldfinch was feeding on seeds from a thistle in a garden – Laugharne, Carmarthenshire, Wales

Jackdaw on the Shore.

This Jackdaw (Corvus monedula) was perched on a post on the estuary in Laugharne, Carmarthenshire. Wales. The Jackdaw is very common in woods, villages and towns. Often seen in flocks.

Southern Hawker Dragonfly

This common species of Dragonfly breeds in still water including garden ponds. The Southern Hawker (Aeshna juncea) is seen between June-October, often roaming far from water. This specimen was seen in a garden in Laugharne, Carmarthenshire.

The Young Wagtail

A juvenile Pied Wagtail (Motacilla alba yarrellii). Subspecies of White Wagtail limited to British Isles and sporadically on adjacent continental coasts. This juvenile was sitting on the river bank by Laugharne Castle in Carmarthenshire.

The Rook at Newgale, Pembrokeshire.

The Rook (Corvus frugilegus) is very common in cultivated fields where there are small groups of trees or small woods. This handsome specimen was photographed in Newgale, Pembrokeshire sitting by a picnic table far away from its usual environment.
