The Large White butterfly (Pieris brassicae) is the largest of our white butterflies. This species can be recognised by the black patch that extends from the wing tip to at least halfway along the edge of the wing. Unfortunately not always welcome in gardens because the caterpillar of this butterfly devours cabbages and related plants. Can be seen throughout the United Kingdom.
